Community Involvement

About Us

Community Futures is a non-profit, community based organization that offers economic development to entrepreneurial individuals. We operate with a volunteer Board of Directors who represent different aspects of the local community and a staff of business professionals. We are proud to service our community by encouraging entrepreneurs and thus strengthening our local economy as a whole.

Our vision:

  • To create a diverse, sustainable community by supporting local, community-based economic development and small business support.
  • To provide business support and access to capital
  • To build economic development partnerships
  • To advance and implement community projects
  • To promote a vibrant, diversified future for rural Saskatchewan

The mandate of the Corporation is to function as a "Small Business Start-Up and Assistance Centre", namely to:

  • Provide business counseling, business plan assistance, and consulting services, including small business support services and access to the Internet.
  • Administer the Community Futures loan funds and provide access to capital to small business.
  • Provide relevant and effective small business education and training services
  • Provide small business and program information services, including a well-stocked and modern business resource library.
  • Be active in community economic development activities.

The Board of Directors, when developing a mandate for local community economic development, selected certain polices which were deemed to be the most effective to "provide financing and technical assistance to expanding entrepreneurs and assisting in establishing of new businesses."

The Board directed that the staff provide services to small business, service and retail sectors with special attempts to encourage value added manufacturing and processing. All loan proposals, supported by a business plan, were to be referred to an outside financial institution first, before consideration would be given by Community Futures.

Loan partnering with outside financial institutions would be encouraged. Loans would be be considered to the primary agriculture sector of our service area. The key to our lending activities is "new" job creation for our service area.
